History

Having grown up in New York and in Johannesburg (South Africa) George Leitner returned to his home town Vienna in 1976 laying the foundation of his artist agency back in 1979. The passion for music combined with a global outlook based on family roots (his father being an international IT-manager), his economic studies in Vienna and a fantastic team of music people who joined the vision led to what GLP is today.

Georg Leitner and his team launched some of the first Punk- (e.g. The Clash, Reggae- (e.g. Peter Tosh) and Stadium-Open Air Festivals (e.g. Rod Stewart) in Austria. Furthermore GLP developed effective marketing strategies which involved creative sponsorship agreements with national and international major companies.

1985 Jack Bart, the agent and manager of “James Brown” gave GLP the first opportunity to progress towards an international agency. Sal Michaels (Pyramid Productions), Dick Allen (William Morris) to name just a few US partners have been instrumental in paving the way for GLP to further develop the concept of “artist marketing” throughout the world, a concept focused by George Leitner from 1988 onwards.

During this time the cooperation between GLP & Multimedia (Laszlo Hegedus) in Hungary resulted also in many bands touring in Eastern Europe and Russia (behind what was then called “Iron Curtain”). Aside from many tours with James Brown, Stanley Clarke, Kool & the Gang, and the many more, Laszlo Hegedus and George Leitner cooperated on some historical events such as the AMNESTY INTERNATIONAL EVENT (shortly before the wall fell) in September 1988 with Bruce Springsteen, Sting, etc. In 2002 GLP staged an Aids benefit in Nairobi – where Kool & the Gang appeared in front of over 250 000 fans.

Today GLP delivers to promoters across the globe some of the world’s top performers. GLP has booked artists such as Ray Charles, James Brown, Miriam Makeba, Sean Paul and CHIC featuring Nile Rodgers. GLP also puts together “Package Tours” such as “The Tribute to Bob Marley – World Tour” which featured Ziggy Marley, Jimmy Cliff and Pato Banton.

GLP-tours also include longstanding legends such as George Clinton Parliament / Funkadelic, Kool & the Gang or Earth Wind & Fire exp. feat Al McKay, World / Reggae attractions (e.g. Collie Buddz, Inner Circle, Third World), Jazz (e.g. Jose Feliciano), Rock  (e.g. Foreigner, Nina Hagen, Mother’s Finest),  family entertainment (e.g. Peter Pan on Ice) as well as urban music & Hip Hop  (e.g. 50 Cent, Missy Elliot).

Beyond that talent GLP also delivers “turn-key solutions” and artists for corporate and private events (e.g. Shakira, Gloria Gaynor, Michael Bolton). Clients include international brands like Blackberry, IBM, Dolce & Gabbana, Coca Cola, Replay, Emirates and the many more.
